Bradford Village Beer and Soda

SO MANY BEERS SO LITTLE TIME

This weeks West Coast IPA's

Crisper and cleaner than its East coast cousins with bittering being prominent. Also known as American IPA

Triple Crossing (VA) Western Edge 6%

SO MANY BEERS SO LITTLE TIME

   3 hops ( Citra, Nelson & Centennial)

Intriguing subtle malt aroma mixes with the West Coast aspect. Senses detect future floral notes to come

Crisp & carbonated. Centennial Leads off with WC bittering & into light flavors of orange Citra mid sip. Nelsons wine aspect seems relegated tp more aroma notes with very little flavor contributions. The offering mellows as you go.

A West Coast craft with interesting hop additions to enjoy.

Living Haus (OR) Dino 6.8%

SO MANY BEERS SO LITTLE TIME

1 hop (Citra & Citra Cryo)

Light earthy aroma begins the offering. From there you enter into light carbonation & a medium crisp body. Utilizing only Citra in 2 variations in the boil provides light bittering & multiple notes of orange in the flavor which are blended softly. The use of this hop offers a soft style

with the body backing up the WC intention.

A surprisingly different WC craft. All aspects can appeal to all but the most hazy fans.

Half Acre (IL) / Firestone Walker (CA) Daisy Cutter Union 7%

SO MANY BEERS SO LITTLE TIME

   3 hops (Krush, Simcoe & HQC 4)

Mellow fruit  & West Coast aroma.

Medium carbonation that fades away into a mix of a crisp & soft body blend. Flavors of berry & orange are light with Bittering relegated to each mid sip weaving between hop flavor.  A clean classic West Coast finish.

A very nice example of balance & blend in creating a different WC style that IPA camps can get behind.

Dock Street (PA) Summer Haze IPA 5%

SO MANY BEERS SO LITTLE TIME

3 hops (Citra, Cascade & Idaho 7) All added late or dry hopped.

Floral fruit aroma of Idaho 7. Medium carbonation. Hazy appearance belies the crisp backbone & flavors of citrus & light grapefruit wrap into this. Bittering is an aspect but is not the main contributor. An Idaho 7 light spiced end to each sip.

An American IPA leans more WC but flavor will keep IPA fans in the game.

Suited towards IPA & WC fans

Aurora (NY) No Alarms No Surprises 7%

SO MANY BEERS SO LITTLE TIME

2 hops (Southern Cross & Nelson)

WC aroma with fruit influence. Soft WC bittering is evident from the start but recedes into medium carbonation & citrus/grape flavors that dominate mid sip on in harmony.  WC bittering does remain intact but always remain layered. All aspects are blended & balanced in a light, crisp body.

Feels like a cross between a DIPA & WC craft due to a well done use of a bittering hop that doesn't overwhelm.

Elder Pine (MD) Nectaron Archives 6%

SO MANY BEERS SO LITTLE TIME

   1 hop (Nectaron)

Deep fruit aroma, lightly dank & earthy. Expected bittering is immediate & consistent in a medium range.  Citrus flavor is relegated to an underlayer but contributes to the offering creating the needed blend for a 1 hop craft. All is propped up by the light backbone.

Coronado (CA) Aloha Warrior 7.2%

In Stock

SO MANY BEERS SO LITTLE TIME

3 hops (Simcoe, Chinook & Columbus Cryo)

Piney resinous aroma with a trace of fruit notes. Flavor follows suit with the above. Subtle fruit notes filter through exiting & surrendering back to a more WC style in a clean, crisp body & medium carbonation.

While Columbus Cryo provides a hint of citrus flavor this remains predominantly West Coast

Alesmith (CA) IPA West Coast style 7.25%

In stock

SO MANY BEERS SO LITTLE TIME

 2 hops  (Citra & Columbus)

Aroma doesn't lean WC. Malts start this off with a light sweet aspect & helps kick in the flavor contributions that mix well with carbonation & medium bittering. Holding the sip brings out all contributors & helps end this in a flavor/bitter tie while continually maintaining this style & consistency in a milder version. Warmer kindled more in flavor

SO MANY BEERS SO LITTLE TIME

3 hops (Chinook, Nelson & Centennial)

 3 sip rule ...

A malt aspect mixes into the fruit aroma. Holding each sip brings Centennial & Nelson flavors forward eventually giving way to Chinook bittering which should be expected in this style.  Again, warmer gives flavor the trump card. This is a West Coast offering but more & more Nelson is finding its way into this style giving it a new twist & possibly new fans.

SO MANY BEERS SO LITTLE TIME

3 hops (Centennial, Simcoe & Citra)

3 sip rule in effect .

Dank fruit aroma leads us in but is not a precursor of the future.   Higher carbonation as expected from this style as well as IBU. But from here go find yourself in a flavor array compliments of the process (DIPA) that leads to a mid sip burst of flavors that continue towards a blended ending.

You must be a fan of this style to dig in but when you do it will be another welcome addition

Industrial Arts (NY) Hex Bolt AIPA 6%

In Stock

SO MANY BEERS SO LITTLE TIME

5 hops (Comet, Centennial, Cascade, Simcoe Cryo & Galaxy)

A multi fruit aroma. Clean, crisp & nuanced in all hop aspects. Malts peek around the corner from time to time but remain a backround presence to all the subtle fruit flavors that mix nicely with bittering.  All this remains intact & nothing overwhelms the other.

A true AIPA in its contributors

Elder Pine (MD) Meridian AIPA 6%

In Stock

SO MANY BEERS SO LITTLE TIME

2 hops (Meridian & Mosaic) An American IPA is also called a West Coast IPA.

Earthy aroma with orange notes that come forward. High carbonation & crisp backbone that introduces WC bittering. An eventual mixing with flavor until the offering matures becoming an equally balanced craft that softens as you go.

West Coast & IPA fans would gravitate towards this.

Dancing Gnome (PA) Asteroid WC IPA 7.2%

In Stock

SO MANY BEERS SO LITTLE TIME

3 hops (Sultana, Chinook & Citra)

Aroma lets you know you're venturing into a West Coast style craft. Body indicates the same. Medium carbonation & the expected bittering prevail in each sip.  Mid sip this surrenders somewhat to Citra fruit flavor that mellows the offering & blends with the previous hop contributions as the offering warms.

 A true WC craft .

KC BC (NY) Catsablanca WC 7.2%

In Stock

4 hops (Chinook, Centennial, Zumo & Motueka)

Earthy fruit aroma. Higher carbonation & bittering kicks in as it should giving way somewhat to flavors of orange & lime notes.  While bittering recedes a bit it remains a constant reminder that this is, after all a west coast style nicely layered with fruit aspects. The addition of Zumo takes this to another level & differentiates itself.

Phase Three (IL) Doggone Coastal 5.4%

In Stock

 1 hop (Nelson Sauvin)

A light & pleasant aroma starts this off  & leads us into medium to higher carbonation & a crisp body. The offering settles into a nice blending as you go showing the contributions of this hop you may be unfamiliar with such as a very subtle citrus aspect pairing with the known grape flavor & light bittering.  The brewing process seems to be early to mid boil given the above but in no way detracts from the idea of this unusual hop choice.  A dry finish to end each sip

Elder Pine (MD) Mosaic Archive 6%

In Stock

As its name implies ... 1 hop (Mosaic)

A crisp, clean start with light bittering. Earthy layers with fruit aspects come forward further in as this warms & blends into the body. Malts are a major contributor to the entire offering but only most subtly.  No one aspect of Mosaic is dominant rather nicely layered start to finish.

An interesting choice of hop for a West Coast that creates a milder version of this style that can be enjoyed by almost any craft fan.

Evil Twin (CT) Our 2nd most popular IPA 6.5%

In Stock

3 hops (Citra, Simcoe & Columbus)

Columbus seems the primary hop in this craft imparting woody herbal aromas & a very light dank undertone which does not overpower in any way. Nicely  carbonated.  Lightl dry with medium bittering.  When the fruit layers come forward this offering is tied together in all aspects from woody to herbal ,bitter to fruit.

Refreshingly crisp making it easy to crush a few in a session. Probably the mellowest WC we've reviewed in a while

Fonta Flora (NC) Double Hop Beard 8.5%

In stock

4 hops (Amarillo,Citra,Mosaic & Simcoe  Interesting profile. A drier hop aroma to start. Light bittering &  a fruit/floral bouquet brought on by Mosaic and Amarillo.  While the body is soft it maintains a WC crispness. Aspects blend and work together throughout.

Bold yet light in nature with a semi dry finish. You don't realize the ABV is 8.5% due to the light nature of this craft.. A unique offering that will satisfy most camps.

Equilibrium (NY) Orbital Oasis 7%

In stock

3 hops (Citra, Strata and Mosaic)

These 3 always seem to pair well together.  Let's find out.

Subtle malt aspects peek out from behind earthy orange and light pine aroma.  Light carbonation and lightly crisp body. Consistent light bittering mixes equally with Citra and Mosaic flavors and create a nice balance. A spiced semi dry finish does no harm. Colder is preferred for this craft.

Probably the lightest WC offering yet reviewed. If you shy away from this style step in and try this offering.

Forest & Main (PA) Emperor Dumpling

Still Available

2 hops   (Chinook and Vic Secret)  7%

Semi dry fruit aroma.  Medium to high carbonation.  Chinook is the dominant hop and provides the expected bittering throughout,  Vic Secret gives the offering enough layering to provide balance. How do you find this hop in this craft.  Holding the sip gives you its contribution and blends the 2 nicely.  A softer body than some WC offerings

Fans of this style will do well to give it a try

Mast Landing (ME) Long Distance Runner

Still Available

5 hops (Amarillo, Centennial, Simcoe, Cascade and Chinook). 6.8%

With so many hops identifying who is responsible for what may be moot. With that said ...

Pleasant fruit aroma. Flavoring and bittering are equal partners throughout each sip. Medium carbonation. Holding the sip tangerine peeks through and greets subtle orange notes. An earthy bottom as you end each sip. Bittering is the final actor.

Consistency of all the above is what matters and this doesn't disappoint. A well done offering .
